ISBN: 9780451494320
New York, NY, USA: Alfred A. Knopf, 2017. First Edition. Hardcover. Inscribed and signed by David Lagercrantz. “Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist return in this furiously paced fifth book in the internationally best-selling Millenium series that began with Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” (from front flap) Swedish writer and journalist Stieg Larsson (1954-2004) died suddenly of a heart attack before completing his planned 10-volume series beginning with Män som hatar kvinnor (2005) (literally "Men who hate women") translated as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2008). The first three books of the Millennium series (also, The Girl Who Played with Fire, 2006, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, 2009) were published posthumously and became international bestsellers, but the manuscripts and notes for the subsequent volumes remain unpublished in the possession of Larsson’s partner, Eva Gabrielsson. Swedish journalist and author David Lagercrantz (b. 1962) was recruited in 2013 to continue the unfinished story with translations provided by George Goulding. The Girl in the Spider’s Web was released in 2015 followed by The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye in 2017 and The Girl Who Lived Twice in 2019. Lagercrantz then passed the baton to Karin Smirnoff (b. 1964) who published her first of three planned installments, The Girl in the Eagle's Talons, in 2022, completing seven of the ten from Larsson’s original plan. Who will pen volume ten is still undetermined. The characters and themes of the Millennium series are ubiquitous and adaptable, and the writers of Sweden want to put their mark on the classic series and see Larsson’s vision come to fruition.
