"I cannot,/ nor will I,/ nor shall I ever.../ ALL SPEECH A MELODY IN THE LANGUAGE OF YES" ("Langue d'Oc," unpaginated) A collection of poems including the title poem & many others by (Stanton) Kirby Doyle (1932-2003), the American poet who was a key & influential early figure in the San Francisco Renaissance/ Beat Generation. Chapbook in stapled wrappers, presumed first edition/ first-&-only printing though neither specified as such at sparse copyright page. An exemplary production of Diane di Prima's fabled Poets Press. We have seen a reference to a loose sheet with a final version of "Poem Written in Yellow Spectacles as Praise for the New Undead," not present in this copy. From the collection of Robin Eichele (b. 1941), a noted Mimeograph Revolutionary poet who co-founded the Detroit Artists' Workshop with the legendary John Sinclair (1941-2024), & is our good nearby friend. An essential Doyle collectible, to our knowledge his first published collection, in its singularly rarest contemporary form & with distinguished, relevant provenance. In relatively quite fine condition with mild-to-moderate rubbing, browning & occasional faint scratching, spotting to front, back covers & stapled spine; very slight wear & some tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same; mild rubbing, browning & scratching (the latter mostly as issued) to edges of text block. Interior fine with mild browning to blank inner covers & page leaves (the latter chiefly at blank margins/edges); tiny bumps, creases esp. at/near lower edges, corners of some leaves. Fine.
