Orange Sailor
Detroit, MI, USA: The Alternative Press, n/d. First Edition. Sewn Binding. Presented here is the poem “Orange Sailor” by Michigan born poet and visual artist Faye Kicknosway (b.1936). Kicknosway is the author of more than a dozen poetry collections, including Mixed Plate: New and Selected Poems (2003), Who Shall Know Them? (1985), and All These Voices: New and Selected Poems (1986), and her work is also featured in the feminist poetry anthology No More Masks! (1973). Who Shall Know Them?, a collection engaging with Walker Evans’ (1903-1975) photographs, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Characteristic of Kicknosway's poetry, Orange Sailor pulls your focus from one image to the next, and each stanza is rife with surrealist imagery. Published by Ken Mikolowski’s legendary Alternative Press that published hand-crafted letterpress productions of works by many poets of the Beat Generation & beyond. From the collection of Thomas Fitzsimmons (1926-2017), noted American poet, academician & editor, which we have been honored to obtain from his son, Ian Fitzsimmons.
