Anon No. 5 (1971)

Ann Arbor, MI: University of Michigan, 1971. First Printing. Softcover. This vintage fifth number of the academic literary journal published at the University of Michigan here in Ann Arbor, "...devoted to the bringing forward of previously unpublished poetry and prose predominantly by authors associated with the continuing University of Michigan community" (editors' statement, pg. 5) features two poems by Laurence Goldstein (1943-2023), "Drive in Spring" & "To Wallace Stevens, from Bali" (pgs. 70-71). Goldstein, then an Assistant Professor at the UM English Department, was the renowned American author, film critic, poet, editor & academician here at UM from whose collection we have obtained this. Also in this issue are contributions by the since-distinguished author Max Apple (b. 1941), the now-canonical poet Donald Hall (1928-2018) & many others, some lost to obscurity. With reproductions of two images by NYC photographer Vernon Shibla. Trade-format softcover in wrappers, presumed first-&-only printing. A collectible literary relic with the important provenance of one of its several contributors who ascended to prominence. In relatively near-fine condition with mild rubbing, browning, faint scratching & occasional spotting, spot-staining to front, back covers & spine; mostly very slight wear & some tiny bumps, creases at/from edges & corners of same; several short, mostly closed chips, tears & creases at small area surrounding lower left corner of back cover with minimal loss of paper, surface paper; mild rubbing, browning to edges of text block; spot-stains at/near lower right corner of same. Interior mostly fine with a hint of browning to page leaves (chiefly at blank margins/edges); tiny bumps, faint creases at esp. upper corners of some leaves. Near Fine. [Item #6881]
