House Organ

Oakland, CA: Mouth Organ Press, 1970. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. House Organ, by all accounts, seems to have been either a one-off publication, or a short lived literary-meets-photography magazine. This item, like many in the Thomas Fitzsimmons collection, has had most of its finer details lost to time. While little information is available, it seems that House Organ was disseminated and published in and or around Oakland University, where a burgeoning art scene was arising at the time (late 60’s and early 70’s). While a shroud of vagary hangs on the origin and finer details of House Organ and many of its contributors, what is known is the raw, experimental, erudite nature of it and its veracity as a publication worthy of championing the Detroit-Artist-Workshop-like ethos. Featured in this work is the likes of Thomas Fitzsimmons (1926-2017), noted American poet, academician & editor, from whose collection this volume was attained; Martin Wolf, mysterious poet & editor of House Organ; Gregory Paxon; and photographers such as Andrew Anfanger; William Stanton; and William Wren. Stapled Wrappers. First & presumably only edition. Book is in very fine condition with minor wear at fine edges, light smudging to front and back covers, and light rusting at staples. Very Fine.
