(Mickey Mouse Presents Walt Disney's) The Golden Touch

Part of Disney’s Silly Symphony, The Golden Touch was a cartoon based on the Greek myth of King Midas set in medieval times. The prolific early cartoon voice actor Billy Bletcher (1894-1979) voiced King Midas, and it was the last film directed by Walt Disney (1901-1966) himself. The legendary chrysophile King Midas is bestowed the Golden Touch by an elf named Goldie even though it came with a warning that the gift would prove to be a curse. Faced with the fate that he would starve to death when even his bite turned food to gold, Midas begs Goldie to reverse the curse, which costs him all of his earthly possessions. Disney’s Silly Symphony was a series of 75 musical short films produced between 1929 and 1939 as whimsical cartoon accompaniments to well-known pieces of music. The character Donald Duck made his first appearance in the Silly Symphony cartoon The Wise Little Hen in 1934. The Whitman Publishing company made a licensing deal with Walt Disney in 1933 to produce books based on their characters and films which they did for decades though the number of titles is difficult to discern. This is a rare, early installment to the Disney children’s books catalog. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket: first edition, first printing, though neither explicated as such on copyright page. No subsequent printings referenced. Book is in relatively fine condition with minor bumping, rubbing to the edges and corners of front, back covers & spine; minor resultant peeling with slight surface paper loss to same; minor rubbing, scratching to back cover; one small indentation/crease diagonally from bottom of spine toward back cover. Dust jacket is in relatively good condition with moderate bumping, creasing, peeling to the edges and corners of front, back covers & spine; several small, closed tears to top and bottom edge of back cover; tears to top of spine and top edges of flap folds with some peeling, paper loss; minor-to-moderate rubbing, scratching, scuffing to front, back covers & spine.
