A collection of short memoirs/ observational essays by Patti Smith (b. 1946), the great American musician, poet, author & photographer. A "small" book indeed, a diminutive & exquisite production of the New York City Hanuman imprint produced in Madras, India. Softcover with sewn binding in illustrated dust jacket, first printing of 1992 with no reference to further printings of later years. With front cover jacket illustration by "Edward Maxey," a pseudonym for Edward Mapplethorpe, brother of the late photographer Robert Mapplethorpe who was Smith's companion & colleague; & images at frontispiece & throughout by Linda Smith Bianucci, Smith's sister. On the title page, below her printed name, Smith has hand-written her intriguing, stylized signature in black ink. From Smith's own collection, as certified & which can be verified by our friends at Better Read than Dead Booksellers in NYC (betterreadthandeadbooks@gmail.com; (347) 470-5367), from whom we obtained this at the Ann Arbor Antiquarian Book Fair held during October 13, 2024. An extremely scarce Patti Smith-&-Co. collectible in its very rarest contemporary form, greatly enriched by Smith's signature & provenance from her own collection. Book in very fine condition, appearing substantially mint. Dust jacket fine-to-very-fine with only a touch of rubbing, light browning to front, back covers, spine & flaps; a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same; series of very small chips at upper right edge of back cover (most likely as issued); small original price sticker affixed to upper left area of back cover, slightly obscuring logo-illustration thereon.
