Stroker No. 35 (1987)
New York, NY, USA: Stroker Magazine, 1987. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. Presented here is issue 35 of the literary-art-cultural journal edited by NYC St. Marks Place underground denizen Irving Stettner (1922-2004) featuring (as does almost every issue in this series) contributions by Henry Miller (1891-1980). Other contributions include “Prose, Poems and Ink drawings: selected from Stroker back issues, plus new work” from habitual contributor Tommy Trantino (b.1938); a letter from American composer and writer Paul Bowles (1910-1999), “A Letter to T. Zaccaginini” from English novelist and philosopher John C(owper) Powys (1872-1963); and “The Saints and the Poet”, an ink drawing from French artist Pierre Jacquemon (1936-2001), among others! This issue seems to emphasize ink drawings from various artists making it a real visual treat. A quintessential exemplar of the later Mimeograph Revolution NYC Lower East Side Zine era; an essential collectible from this scarce & significant series in its singularly rarest contemporary form. Stapled wrappers: First edition & first printing. Shifreen & Jackson, C712-C713, pg. 830. In near fine condition with short, mostly closed tear at spine where first stapler is; minor white marking/smudges on front and back cover; and some bumping to fine edges. Near Fine. [Item #7099]
