This 25th issue-anniversary number of the literary-art-cultural journal edited by NYC St. Marks Place underground denizen Irving Stettner (1922-2004) features a special 17-page section of writings by Henry Miller (1891-1980), the great American author & artist whose earlier works were an influence & inspiration to the Beat Generation. Consisting of many short autobiographical or epistolary works from the late 1960s-1970s, most are transcribed with two letters from Miller to Stettner additionally printed in autograph facsimile, & several are reprinted from previous issues (pgs. 6-22). Shifreen & Jackson, C679-685, pgs. 828-829. Also in this issue: A poem by the New York School-&-Beyond Master Ted Berrigan (1934-1983), "Sweet Iris" (pg. 32); an excerpt from "Book of Fame" by Beat-related journalist & author Seymour Krim (1929-1989, pgs. 23-26); two letters from Mohammed Mrabet, the legendary Moroccan storyteller, to Stettner (translated, as ever, from the Moghrebi language into English by the great Paul Bowles); transcription of a letter to Stettner (addressed as the nickname "Swerve"), & several facsimile autograph writings with drawings, by Thomas "Tommy" Trantino (b. 1938), a convicted murderer who spent four decades in prison & who exhibited talent in art & writing (pgs. 28-31); & yet more. With several contemporary ads for long-gone venues on St. Marks Place & nearby. Another rich, varied, most-rare & collectible issue in this series that exemplifies the later Mimeograph Revolution NYC Lower East Side Zine era, as usual of particular interest to Miller devotees. In very fine condition with only a touch of rubbing, faint scratching to front, back covers & stapled spine; a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same; a bit of rubbing, browning to edges of text block. Interior very fine with only a hint of browning to page leaves, chiefly at blank margins/edges; tiny bumps at corners of some leaves. Very Fine. [Item #7109]
