London, England, UK: Headline Book Publishing/ Hodder Headline PLC, 1993. First UK Edition. Hardcover. Signed by Ramsey Campbell. "Late in the twentieth century, during an era in which ghosts and vampires and other spectral standbys have degenerated into icons of mass-media kitsch, Ramsey Campbell almost silngle-handedly has revived English supernaturalism as serious artistic expression. In his stories he summons this hallowed tradition to embody such themes as urban decay, institutional disintegration, paranoia, loneliness, alienation, neurotic anxiety, sexual repression, loss of identity- all are accorded spectral expression amid a surreally shifting chiaroscuro of reality and unreality." (from front flap) A comprehensive collection of the finest stories from the first three decades in the prolific career of Ramsey Campbell (b. 1946), the award-winning, popular & prolific British horror-fiction author whose style has been praised by such genre masters as Stephen King & Peter Straub, & has been deemed by some critics as a worthy successor to that of icons of the macabre including H.P. Lovecraft. With a section of appropriately surreal photomontage arworks relating to the stories by J(effrey) K(night) Potter (b. 1956), the acclaimed American artist. Of importance to us Third Minds is that in his precocious youth during the 1960s, Campbell corresponded with, was inspired & mentored by none other than William S. Burroughs, the very Patron Saint-Demon of our enterprise- see our presentation, The Cut-Up Life of WSB, which was delivered at the European Beat Studies Network (ebsn.eu) Conference during September 2023, from the carousel of our site, to learn more. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket, first UK edition "First Published in Great Britain 1994" as stated at copyright page, first printing as indicated by number sequence thereon. On the title page, Campbell has hand-written his large, energetic signature in bold black ink. A page-turning, essential & rewarding classic Campbell collectible in its exceedingly rarest contemporary form, greatly enriched by his signature. See also our item No.s 6253, 7050, 7052, 7094, 7153.
