New York, NY, USA: St. Martin's Press, 1993. First Edition. Hardcover. Signed by James Dalessandro. " "Peekaboo" Frankie Fagen is a long-haired, leather-jacketed private detective, best known for his unconventional methods and the Norton Commando he rides through his beloved San Francisco. When summoned to a box at the Opera, he meets the beautiful Colleen Farragut, due to go on trial the next day for the murder of her husband, the city's richest and most powerful real estate developer and a lifelong Fagen nemesis. A million-dollar bonus is Frankie's if he finds the burglars Colleen claims were the actual killers- but the real prize would be a century's worth of Farragut diaries that document a family tradition of criminal activity and corruption." (from front flap) A delightful neo-noir novel by James Dalessandro (b. 1948), the popular American author, filmmaker & producer. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket, "First edition: September 1993" as stated at copyright page, an apparent second printing as indicated by number sequence thereon. On the title page, below his printed name, Dalessandro has hand-written his signature in black ink. From the archive of Thomas Rain Crowe (b. 1949), the acclaimed poet who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s. The TRC archive was acquired, catalogued & originally offered as a single item by Third Mind Books (see our item No. 1010), & during this year of 2025, its vast number of items are being separately curated & incrementally presented. See also our item No. 3071, Starting From San Francisco, published by Third Mind Books, where Crowe himself relates a complete history of the BBG/SSFR & its collaborations/ mentorships with key members of the original Beat Generation/ San Francisco Renaissance. There are several references in SFSF to Dalessandro, who was an important contemporary colleague of Crowe & his group, especially with his co-founding & directorship of the Santa Cruz Poetry Festival at the height of the BBG/SSFR phenomenon. A fun & rewarding Dalessandro collectible in its penultimately rarest contemporary form, greatly enriched by his signature & with very significant association & provenance.
