"Now we are the limits of the mind collapsed/ coming into the knowledge in a green place/ face and stranger apparitions/ crossing the peripheries of sight" (Janine Pommy Vega, "Ring Fort," first stanza, unpaginated) This number of the literary journal edited by Gary Lawless (b. 1951), the noted poet, editor, publisher & bookseller who is a lifelong resident of Maine, features two poems by Peter Blue Cloud (1933-2011), the acclaimed & award-winning Native American/ First (Mohawk) Nation Canadian poet-folklorist. Also in this issue are contributions of poetry by Tim McNulty, the esteemed poet & conservationist who resides in Washington State; the beloved Beat-inspired cult favorite Janine Pommy Vega (1942-2010, quoted above, see esp. item No. 7233) & many more. Chapbook-format journal in stapled wrappers, presumed first-&-only edition/printing. From the archive of Thomas Rain Crowe (b. 1949), the acclaimed American poet who was at the center of the Baby Beat Generation/ Second San Francisco Renaissance during the 1970s. The TRC archive collectively represents the entire legacy of the BBG/SSFR & its critical collaborations/mentorships with the key members of the original Beat Generation/ San Francisco Renaissance; & was acquired, catalogued & offered as a single item by Third Mind Books (see our item No. 1010). The individual pieces of the archive are now being separately curated & presented during this year of 2025. Blue Cloud is referenced in several instances within SFSF- Crowe was highly influenced by Native American culture & folklore since childhood, & even eventually changed his name from Dawson. A rich & rewarding collectible in its singularly rarest contemporary form, of special interest to Blue Cloud (see also item No.s 5043, 7308, 7406, 7408) & Pommy Vega devotees & with distinguished, relevant provenance. In relatively near-fine condition with mild rubbing, browning & spotting to front, back covers & stapled spine; a touch of wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same; staples in process of rusting with a bit of exterior & interior bleeding therefrom; mild rubbing, browning & spotting to edges of text block. Interior fine-to-very-fine with only very slight browning & occasional spotting to inner covers & page leaves, chiefly at blank margins/edges; tiny bumps & very small, faint creases at corners of some leaves; minimal rust-bleeding at middle noted above.
