Berkeley, CA: University of California Press, 1991. First Edition, First Printing. "Why poetry? Its materials are so constant, simple, elusive, specific. It cost so little and so much. It preoccupies a life, yet can only find one in living. It is music, a playful construct of feeling, a last word and communion" (preface). Robert Creeley (1926-2005), Black Mountain poet, daring publisher, college professor, and cohort to the likes of literary icons and treasures such as Charles Olson (1910-1970), Robert Duncan (1919-1988), Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) and Ed Dorn (1929-1999), was a prolific poet. This compendium represents a lifetime of artistry and dedication to the craft of poetry. Selections from his first fame-achieving collection of poems, "For Love", (published 1962) through one of his penultimate collections, "It" (1989) will leave you in awe and admiration of this lyrical American poetry great. Featuring stand out poems: "A Marriage," (pg. 56), "Massachusetts," (pg.188), "All The Way," (pg. 286) and "Stairway To Heaven," (pg. 315). An exciting and important addition to any Creeley enthusiast's or Black Mountain poetry aficionado's collection.
