On the Back Porch
Troy, NY, USA: Black Fig Press, 2023. Limited Second Edition; First American Edition. Sewn Sheets. Inscribed, signed, & numbered by Ronald Baatz and publisher Andra Sheinkopf. Ronald Baatz is a notoriously elusive poet who has been featured in literary journals like Wormwood Review alongside other legendary Beat-&-Beyond writers like Charles Bukowski (1920-1994), the so-called “poet laureate of American Lowlife,” and Gerald Locklin (1941-2021), the former poetry editor at Chiron Review. This collection was first published in a limited edition in England in 2006, and it has finally been published in the United States by Andra Sheinkopf’s Black Fig Press which specializes in hand-assembled limited editions of poetry. They have released fourteen volumes of Baatz’s poetry in the past decade including several under their previous name Yggdrasil Press, which also published two volumes of poetry by Glenn W. Cooper, to whom this copy is probably inscribed. “For Glenn” is written above the colophon in pencil, and both Baatz and Sheinkopf signed in pencil below the handwritten number on the same page. The binding of this volume is an intricate thread pattern that makes this plain-covered chapbook eye-catching. Sewn Sheets: limited second edition, as stated on colophon, in “an edition of 40 numbered and signed copies” of which this is No. 4. In relatively very fine condition with minimal bumping to the fine edges and corner; interior pristine. Received from Mr. Baatz himself in Troy, NY, and the envelope has been retained and included here. Very Fine. [Item #7512]
