Blossoms & Bones: On the Life and Work of Georgia O'Keeffe
Nashville, TN: Vanderbilt University Press, 1988. First Edition, First Printing. Signed (twice), inscribed & dated by Christopher Buckley to Dan Rzicznek. “This collection of poems is homage, not homily. I have not attempted to speak for Georgia O’Keeffe, nor am I trying to define her work in any absolute academic or aesthetic way. In my opinion, too many have made that mistake over the years,” Buckley writes in the preface. Includes 30 poems in four sections, each named after one or a collection of paintings by O’Keeffe (1887–1986), the acclaimed American modernist artist. Written by former Guggenheim Fellowship and Fulbright Award winning poet Christopher Buckley (no relation to the son of William F. Buckley, Jr.), the poems are written as monologue, “the clearest and most profitable way for me to enter a painting or photograph and say what Georgia O’Keeffe’s work and vision, her world and images have suggested and meant to me." (Preface) Trade format softcover original, First edition, first printing although neither is explicated on the copyright page. Signed and dedicated on title page by the author: “Christopher Buckley / to Dan - / for our [indiscernible] - / our life + work - / Chris 2004.” From the collection of Dan Rzicznek (b. 1979), recipient of author's inscription and an esteemed Ohio poet who is also an academician at Bowling Green State University. On the top right corner of half-title page, Rzicznek has hand-written his ownership signature in black ink, "F. Daniel Rzicznek.” In Fine to Very Fine condition, with very slight bumping on the front cover, minor wear on the spine, and light smudging on the back cover. Interior Very Fine with minor bumping to top of some leaves, as well as moderate ink bleeding on bottom half of verso of half title page due to author’s signature & dedication. Fine-Very Fine.
