Time Out: London's Weekly Guide No. 911 (February 3-10, 1988)
London, England, UK: Time Out Group, 1988. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. “Americans are the beloved noisemakers, the unschooled and the uncut, appreciated most at their simplest. Poet Charles Bukowski is the classic case of the American original who found his first audience abroad. In the USA, particularly in his hometown of Los Angeles, he is the dirty old man, boss vizier of the sleaze-o-rama pre-where transients slide into cheap rooms and are woken in the middle of the night by yelling neighbours, Charles Bukowski is the presiding booze-hound laureate. The very image of Bukowski’s celebrated kisser–the brooding skull, the lived-in face, the delicacy behind the scar tissue–has been enough to consign him to the bohemian backwaters of American letters…”--Chris Hodenfield, “Bar Codes,” pg 19.
