This number (dated Spring 1981) of the quarterly journal published by the countercultural-ecological Whole Earth Catalog consortium features comics from R. Crumb (b. 1943, aka Robert Crumb), American artist, Fritz the Cat creator & founder of Zap Comix ("From R. Crumb's Sketchbook", pgs. 50-53; see also: item No.s 2164, 2205 to begin your Zap Comix journey). In "Energy and How to Get It" (pgs. 46-49) American artist Gary Hill (b. 1951) proposes a film from himself, American novelist, screenwriter & Wurlitzer jukebox heir Rudy Wurlitzer (b. 1937) and Swiss-American filmmaker Robert Frank (1924-2019). Frank is the filmmaker behind 1959's Pull My Daisy, a short film adapted by Beat Generation vanguard Jack Kerouac (1922-1969) from the third act of his play Beat Generation and starring amongst many others, Beat Generation founding father Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997; see also: item No.s 3316, 4822 for our copies of the Pull My Daisy text). Frank is also the contributing photographer for both the cover photo and the back cover, the front cover featuring his son, Pablo. With many more articles, reviews & illustrations. In relatively fine-to-very fine condition with mild rubbing, scratching, occasional spotting to front, back covers & spine; mild wear & some tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same; minor age-toning and some spotting to text block. Interior fine-to-very fine with mild age-toning mostly at blank margins of inner covers & page leaves; tiny bumps & small, very faint creases at mostly upper corners of some page leaves.
