Detroit Artists' Workshop Program No. 25 (May 2, 1965)

Detroit, MI: Detroit Artists' Workshop, 1965. First Printing. Single Sheet. “Today’s program marks our first six months of operation. We celebrate by continuing our policy of presenting Detroit’s best jazz, poetry, & graphics, free, to people of the Workshop community. Our weekly programs take place here at the Artists’ Workshop each Sunday afternoon at 3:00 P.M." (first paragraph) The twenty-fifth flyer-announcement produced by John Sinclair & Robin Eichele’s Detroit Artists’ Workshop relating to their series of “Sunday Programs.” Titled “SOME PROSE,” it featured two writers of which little is known, Bill Hutton & Brian Nachsen. Additionally, it advertises several other events, including performances of Detroit Jazz great, Charles Moore’s (1941-2014) Detroit Contemporary 5, and “a reading from the New American Poetry” featuring “the San Franciscan, Philip Whalen.” It’s amazing to think Whalen made it out to Detroit at that time, but we’re not sure that’s the case. Sometimes, the Workshop would feature readings from various writers affiliated with the New American Poetry, but the writers themselves would not always be there. Sinclair’s phrasing on this, therefore, make it quite confusing. We invite our fellow scholars of Mid-Century American letters to investigate this, themselves. Treasures like these & more await in this well-preserved Detroit Artists’ Workshop lot. From the collection of Robin Eichele (b. 1941), noted Mimeograph Revolutionary & co-founder (with John Sinclair) of the Detroit Artists’ Workshop. Flyer-announcement on single sheet: the first & only printing of this distinguished rarity from the Mimeograph Revolution. In very fine condition with only minute wear & light bumping to fine-edges & corners of sheet & minute age-toning; otherwise, substantially mint. Very Fine. [Item #8081]
