Broadside: Because He's Bukowski

Encinitas, CA: FreeThought Publications, 2000. Limited First Edition. Signed by Bradley Mason Hamlin. “You have to die a few times before you can really live.” (Bukowski, "The People Look Like Flowers at Last"). This broadside (Flyer #1) from FreeThought publishing series Me & Bukowski features a tribute poem by Bradley Mason Hamlin (b. 1963). Hamlin is an American writer, veteran of the United States Navy, and alumni of the University of California, where Beat Generation/San Francisco Renaissance poet and U of C professor Gary Snyder (b. 1930) dubbed Hamlin “The Road Warrior of Poetry!” He is the creator of "Secret Society Comics" and publisher at Mystery Island Publications. Renowned poet and novelist Charles Bukowski (1920-1994) is memorialized here, in a poetry style similiar to that of his own. Hamlin plainly and honestly portrays Bukowski's lifestyle, from the type of beverage he drank to Bukowski basking (and maybe resting on his laurels) in his deserved fame, near the end of his life. "Because He's Bukowski" is an ardent poem of remembrance of a literary hero, and a touching send-off for a treasured idol. Beautifully bordered in a dark navy repeating twin leaf design. At bottom, underneath his printed name, Hamlin has signed his name "Bradley Hamlin." Broadside (approx. 5" x 14"): limited edition per statement written in blue marker: "41/120." A most collectible item in the Bukowski-related ouevre, in its singularly rarest contemporary form, with the added Second San Francisco Renaissance/Baby Beat Generation provenance. In relatively very fine condition with only the slightest bumping and rubbing to the fine edges and corners; otherwise, pristine. Very Fine. [Item #8104]
