New York, NY, USA: Grossman Publishers, 1972. First Softcover Edition. Softcover. Dated, inscribed & signed by John Wieners to Albert Glover. "Verse making is more than a continuum of principle resting on feminine phenomenological apprehension. The real one of many, the illusory far and near intersect to push behaviour's stream, dependent on questing, producing revelatory postures for men, animals and stars." (Preface, first paragraph, pg. 5) An early collection of poems by John Wieners (1934-2002), the great American lyric poet of the Beat Generation-&-Beyond who was mentored by Charles Olson & Robert Duncan at Black Mountain College & was also a major figure of the San Francisco Renaissance. Trade-format softcover, first softcover edition published simultaneously with a hardcover edition, first printing though not specified as such at copyright page. On the title page, below his printed name, Wieners has hand-written, dated & signed in bold black ink: "To Albert Glover, 1972/ in the St. Lawrence Valley/ transit (signed) John Wieners/ deepest thanks for this Virgin Saggittarian/ weekend." Albert Glover (b. 1942), from whose collection we have acquired this volume & whom we're honored to be acquainted with, is the acclaimed American scholar, bibliographer, poet, author & publisher who remains the foremost living authority on the literary (& literal) Giant Charles Olson- our favorite Maximus Obscurantist. The date of publication year written by Wieners is an assurance of this copy's status as a first printing, & the rich associations & cross-relevancies between these two poets- mutually anointed & shadowed by Olson- make it a pricelessly scarce & significant rarity to the Third Mind collector. See our other Wiener-related collectibles & contributions incl. item No.s 8122, 8124. In relatively quite very fine condition with light rubbing, faint scratching to front, back covers & spine; a bit of wear & some tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same; slight rubbing & age-toning to edges of text block incl. very small light-black stain at lower left spine-edge of same. Interior very fine with only very slight age-toning to blank inner covers & page leaves, chiefly at blank margins/edges; miniscule bumps at corners of a few leaves. Very Fine. [Item #8123]
