Glover, Albert

Untitled Broadside ("All the while you must have been waiting...")

Buffalo, NY: Anonym Press, 1970. First Edition, First Printing. Single Sheet. Signed by Albert Glover. "All the while you must have been waiting, | unborn..." (Opening line of poem). A broadside (appx. 17.5" x 20.5") with the romantic yet grim poem by the somewhat mysterious Albert Glover (b. 1942). The New York writer of Olsonian-like poetry was a professor at St. Lawrence University. In 1964 at SUNY Buffalo, he met his mentor and lifetime writing influence Charles Olson (1910-1970), the modernist American poet who was a link between earlier modernist figures such as Ezra Pound (1885-1972) and William Carlos Williams (1883-1963) and the third generation modernist New American poets. The latter includes the New York School, the Black Mountain School, and some of the artists and poets associated with the Beat generation and the San Francisco Renaissance including the likes of Robert Creeley (1926-2005) and Robert Duncan (1919-1988). A reproduced print from the artist Bonnie Bartow depicts a woman in an elaborate headpiece overlooking a mountainous nature scene. From the collection of Albert Glover (b. 1942) himself, the great American scholar, bibliographer, author & publisher who is the foremost living authority on literary giant Charles Olson (1910-1970; our favorite Maximus Obscurantist), with whom we're honored to be acquainted. At bottom left corner of broadside, Glover has signed his name in emerald ink: "Albert Glover." Presumed first & only printing. A unique Glover collectible enhanced by his signature, with most distinguished & relevant provenance. In relatively fine-to-very-fine condition with mild age-toning mostly to margins and fine edges; a hint of wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners; tiny pinholes at corners of same; occasions of spot-staining on both front and back; broadside has been folded once vertically and several times horizontally, creating mild creases, mostly noticeable to back. Fine-Very Fine. [Item #8142]
