"I know | from the first buds, the ones that squirrels eat | leaving gaunt branches the rest of the season, | but they are not noticed | because all the other foliage drowns their gauky limbs...("And One Day it is Spring," Dianne Derrick; pg. 24). Proffered today is Audit/Poetry: Vol. IV, No. 2, an issue of the rare-yet-beloved poetry magazine featuring State University of New York (SUNY) Buffalo affiliates and professors. Audit/Poetry was based in Buffalo, NY, and was a literary/poetry magazine that ran most notably in the early-mid 1960s and would often feature professional poets, playwrights, essayists and novelists, as well as amateurs, and put together wonderful literary offerings. This particular issue, edited by award winning poets Michael Anania and Charles Doria showcases poets local to the publishing house including: SUNY Buffalo professor Mac Hammond (1926--1997); SUNY Buffalo professor William Sylvester (1918-2016), prolific writer Robert Kelly (b. 1935) and Peter L. Pinto. Poet and sculptor Dianne Derrick displays a real talent for painting a detailed and nuanced portrait of a spring day in the prose-poem And One Day it is Spring (pgs. 24-25). On back cover, the magazine has advertised the most recent release from cannonical American poet, Black Mountain College alumna and openly homophobic Ed Dorn (1929-1999; Rite of Passage). See item no. 6880 for our Audit issue featuring American poet and central San Francisco Renaissance figure, Robert Duncan (1919-1988). From the collection of Albert Glover (b. 1942), the great American scholar, bibliographer, author & publisher who is the foremost living authority on literary giant Charles Olson (1910-1970; our favorite Maximus Obscurantist), with whom we're honored to be acquainted. We have found & retained an original invoice addressed to "Audit Publication | c/o Mrs. Walter Cohen" for "1060 Poetry books - 36 pages plus cover" from Mandhardt Printing, Inc, dated "11/29/65," indicating this is likely a publisher copy. Stapled Wrappers: First & presumably only printing per publishing custom. A rich & rewarding poetry collectible, enhanced with aforementioned ephemera, unique publishing factor & with most distinguished provenance. In relatively fine-to-very fine condition with only minimal wear to fine edges; slight rubbing & scratching to front and back covers; minor bumping of corners of same; mild age-toning to text block.
