Framed Broadside: Brooklyn Anchorage

No Place: No Publisher, 1999. First Printing. Signed, inscribed & dated by Lisa Jarnot to Albert Glover. “And at noon I will fall in love / and nothing will have meaning / except for the brownness of / the sky, and tradition, and water / and in the water off the railway / in New Haven all the lights / go on across the sun, and for / millenia those who kiss fall into / hospitals, riding trains, wearing / black shoes, pursued by those / they love, the Chinese in the armies / with the shiny sound of Johnny Cash…”--first several stanzas. Isaac Jarnot (b. 1967; formerly Lisa Jarnot) is an American poet. He is the author of several collections of poetry, including Some Other Kind of Mission (Burning Deck, 1996), Ring of Fire (Zoland Books, 2001), Black Dog Songs (Flood Editions, 2003), Night Scenes (Flood Editions, 2008), Joie De Vivre: Selected Poems 1992–2012 (City Lights Publishers, 2013), and A Princess Magic Presto Spell (Flood Editions, 2019), along with Four Lectures (Wave Books, 2024) from the Bagley Wright Lecture Series. He coedited An Anthology of New (American) Poets (Talisman House, 1998), and is the author of Robert Duncan, The Ambassador from Venus, a biography (University of California Press, 2012). Offered today is the framed, 1999 broadside Brooklyn Anchorage. Mired in surrealism, with a masterful sense of image, an emotional viscerality, and a familiar yet wholly unique voice, Brooklyn Anchorage is a work that is not only emblematic of Jarnot’s larger corpus, but also stands out as one of his strongest poetic offerings. From the collection of Albert Glover (b. 1942), the great American scholar, bibliographer, author & publisher who is the foremost living authority on literary giant Charles Olson (1910-1970; our favorite Maximus Obscurantist), with whom we're honored to be acquainted. Signed, inscribed and dated from Lisa Jarnot to Albert Glover in thin black ink: “Lisa Jarnot / For Albert / with love / April 1999.” Framed broadside (appr. 7” x 11” with frame; 6 & ½” x 10” without frame).
