Passion Fruit

Boston, MA: n/p, 1996. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. Signed & inscribed by Daniel Bosch to Albert Glover. “You–thick-skinned / Global prison– / What have you pent / Up but ordinary sun, / The spit of Earth’s black bread and / Clear rainwater / In your dead-end / Cells? And what inquisitor / Sentenced them–these / Trickles of innocence I set free, / Your navel pressed deep / Into my palm as I squeeze? / Amnesty: drink up. / The acid will arouse / You. An empty house / Makes a good cup.”--Daniel Bosch, “Orange,” pg. 1. Daniel Bosch is an American poet, essayist, and translator and has appeared in magazines such as Poetry, The New Republic, The Paris Review, The Times Literary Supplement, Slate, Beloit Poetry Journal, Agni, Poetry Daily, The Brooklyn Rail, and Harvard Review, where he was Poetry Editor for Issues 19 and 20. His set of four poems riffing on the films of Tom Hanks was awarded the first Boston Review Poetry Prize, and his book Crucible was published by Other Press in 2002. He has published translations of poems by Friedrich Holderlin (1770-1843), Eugenio Montale (1896-1981) and César Vallejo (1892-1938). His critical writing has appeared in The Daily Beast, The Paris Review Daily, Partisan Review, Berfrois, The Rumpus, Contemporary Poetry Review, The Fortnightly Review, and 3:AM Magazine. For eight years he was director of Writing & Publishing at Walnut Hill School for the Arts. He has also taught writing at Emory University, Boston University, Harvard University, and Tufts University. Offered today is the 1996 collection of poetry, Passion Fruit. A collection of poems named after fruit, Passion Fruit uses fruit imagery while blending a latent surrealism to explore themes of nostalgia, sex, the body, and the senses. Bosch’s voice betrays its influence in writers like Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997), Charles Olson (1910-1970), and the Harlem Renaissance. Vivid, delicate, and with a masterful sense of image, Bosch’s Passion Fruit is a wildly enjoyable and compelling work of poetry! From the collection of Albert Glover (b. 1942), the great American scholar, bibliographer, author & publisher who is the foremost living authority on literary giant Charles Olson (1910-1970; our favorite Maximus Obscurantist), with whom we're honored to be acquainted. Signed & inscribed at title page in thin blue ink by author: “With pleasure / in meeting / you / D.B.” Stapled wrappers. First & presumably only printing with no publisher information, therefore likely self-published. In relatively very fine condition with only minor wear to fine edges, and moderate rusting at staples. Interior very fine. Very Fine. [Item #8319]
