Signed & dated by Karl Young. “Aggressive behavior of horses / Men with obscure wives / Nuclear tests underground / Men fucking monsters / Krakatoa / Black bulls / Waterfalls” (First four lines, Second Hymn to Poseidon, Karl Young) This list-like hymn/poem by poet, book artist, anthologist and publisher Karl Young is presented here in Broadside format. Young was active in the mimeograph scene beginning in 1966, learned printing at Wisconsin Speed Press, and was influenced by publishers such as d.a. levy. He published Membrane Press, worked with the cooperative Underwhich Editions, and helped found the nonprofit book center, gallery, and performance space Woodland Pattern in Milwaukee. He was an early online publisher, including his Light and Dust anthology of avant-garde poetry, and hosted the d.a. levy website. Young wrote about his interests in avant-garde poetry such as Charles Olson’s projective verse and concrete poetry. This copy of Second Hymn to Poseidon is from the collection of Albert Glover (b. 1942), the great American scholar, bibliographer, author & publisher who is the foremost living authority on literary giant Olson. Single Sheet, (11" x 17"). Presumed First Edition, First Printing. Young has, in black ink, signed the piece at the bottom and dated it “9/3/75.” In Very Fine condition with very light bumping and creasing to edges & corners. Fine. [Item #8342]
