You and Your Big Mouth: Cartoons by Pat Moriarity (No. 1, July 1992)

Ocean Shores, WA: Starhead Comics, 1992. First Edition. Stapled Wrappers. This first number of the neo-underground comix compendium presided over & mostly drawn by Seattle artiste Pat Moriarity features "My German Buddy" written by Charles Bukowski (1920-1994), the great American cult-favorite poet-denizen of the dive bar & the racetrack, drawn (in all Buk's squalid alcohol-soaked glory) by Moriarity. The "German Buddy" of the title is the composer Richard Wagner, whose music Buk finds spine-tingling while he relaxes to it over a bottle or twelve- he feels that Wagner is with him through his music, a disturbing yet exultant presence. Pgs. 26-27, Debritto, B1625, pg. 385. Also in this issue are contributions by comix icons Robert Crumb (interestingly written by him but illustrated by Moriarity), Harvey Pekar & many more. Comic book in stapled wrappers, presumed first edition/ first-&-only printing with no references to further printings at copyright-contents page (inner front cover). A desirable & goofily rewarding collectible for "Mature Readers" (front cover), in its singularly rarest contemporary form, of especial interest to the Bukowski completist collector. In relatively quite very fine condition with only a touch of rubbing, faint scratching to front, back covers & stapled spine; a bit of wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of same; staples just beginning to rust at exterior with no discernable exterior or interior bleeding. Interior very fine with only a hint of age-toning chiefly at blank margins/edges of page leaves; tiny bumps at mostly upper corners of some leaves. Very Fine. [Item #8355]
