A compilation of critical-biographical essays by Jane Brakhage (a/k/a Jane Wodening, 1936-2023), the noted American author, artist & environmentalist who was formerly married & collaborated with the canonical American experimental filmmaker Stan Brakhage (1933-2003, see our item No. 8140). The legendary subjects of the essays herein are the brilliant shadow-box artist Joseph Cornell (1903-1972), the avant-garde filmmaker & dancer Maya Deren (1917-1961), & last-but-certainly-not-least Charles Olson (1910-1970)- the Great American Black Mountain-&-Beyond Poet's-Poet who is our favorite Maximus Obscurantist. Trade-format softcover in wrappers with sewn binding, a beautiful production, including frontispiece image (presumably of Brakhage & her siblings as children taken by their father) under loose protective opaque sheet. One of 100 softcover copies (of a total edition of 180) hand-numbered at colophon & signed by Brakhage in black ink at final text page (pg. 37). This is copy No. 94/(81-180). From the collection of Albert Glover (b. 1942), the acclaimed American poet, editor, publisher & academician who is the foremost living authority on Olson, with whom he studied & was anointed by during the 1960s- & who has carried the Olsonian torch as bibliographer, editor & publisher for all these years. At shorter title page, Brakhage has cursively hand-written & signed in blue ink: "To Albert Glover/ with my/ very best wishes/ in your work/ (signed)- Jane." An exquisite Brakhage/Olson & Co. collectible in its penultimately rarest contemporary form, singularly enriched by her Olsonian-to-Olsonian inscription & with the highest, most relevant association & provenance. In very fine condition with only the slightest wear & a few tiny bumps, creases at edges & corners of front, back covers & spine; otherwise essentially mint inside & out. Very Fine. [Item #8387]
