The Capilano Review No. 10 (Fall 1976)

Vancouver, BC, Canada: Capilano College, 1976. First Edition. Softcover. "The Capilano Review continues to live into Number 10. Some continuity, some change. We present as well as we can, the works which excite us." (Bill Schermbrucker, from Part 2 of Preface, pg. 6) A vintage earlier number of the eclectic Canadian literary & art journal published by Capilano College in Vancouver, British Columbia & edited by Bill Schermbrucker (1938-2019), the noted Kenyan-Canadian author & academician. This issue features two (very) short stories by Kenward Elmslie (1929-2022), the acclaimed & prolific author, performance artist, editor & publisher who was a joyous exemplar of the New York School-&-Beyond ("The Man With Three Names" & "The Lady From South Africa Bereft of Her Fortune," pgs. 136-139). With many other, mostly lesser-known contributors including Brian Fawcett, Cathy Ford, Lynn Hughes (a portfolio of her artworks & an interview conducted by CR's "Visual Media" co-editor Ann Rosenberg), Ian Wallace et al. Trade-format softcover in sewn binding, presumed first edition, first-&-only printing. From the collection of Albert Glover (b. 1942), the esteemed American poet, publisher, editor, bibliographer & academician who is the foremost living authority on Charles Olson (1910-1970), the Great Black Mountain-&-Beyond Poet's-Poet who is our cult-favorite Maximus Obscurantist. Glover was a student of & anointed by the Maximus Master himself during the 1960s, & ever since has served outstandingly as bibliographer, editor & publisher to carry the Olsonian Torch into Eternity. A most interesting & rewarding Beat-&-Beyond literary collectible in its singularly rarest contemporary form; of especial interest to the Elmslie collector-completist & with most-distinguished provenance. See our many other Elmslie collectibles & contributions. In relatively fine condition with light rubbing, faint scratching to front, back covers & spine; slight wear & some tiny bumps, creases at/from edges & corners of same; one moderate crease across middle length of spine; mild rubbing, age-toning & spotting to edges of text block. Interior fine with mild age-toning to blank inner covers & page leaves, the latter chiefly at blank margins/edges; tiny bumps & very small, faint creases at corners of a few leaves. Fine.
