[Item #8573] Autograph Postcard from John Waters to Brian Jacobs. John Waters, Brian Jacobs.

Autograph Postcard from John Waters to Brian Jacobs

New York, NY: The American Postcard Company, 1999. Original Postcard. Single Sheet. An original, handwritten postcard (measuring appx. 6” x 4") authored and sent by the Pope of Trash himself, John Waters (b. 1946) to the American poet and theorist, Brian L. Jacobs (b. 1969). While Jacobs was getting his MA at San Francisco State University, he wrote to Waters regarding his proposal to write a thesis on the women in John Waters’ films. The postcard, while hard to read/decipher at all points, contains Waters’ response to Jacobs. The image on the recto side is a still from Waters' film Pink Flamingos (1972) showing actress Edith Massey (1918-1984), one of the usual suspects featured regularly in his films. A unique collectible between two uncompromising American visionaries. From the library of Brian Jacobs (b. 1969), a most-distinguished author, publisher & educator who attended the fabled Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado during the 1990s, where he was the student of its co-founders Anne Waldman (b. 1945) & Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) & was appointed by Ginsberg as his official assistant in the later period of his attendance. Jacobs has gone on to ever-greater heights as a True Beat Progeny, & we have been privileged to obtain and present this stellar collection. The item is also signed by Waters at the close of his response. Waters’ signature, in thin, black pen ink, reads: “John Waters.” In fine condition with only moderate edge-wear, some rubbing, and a few minute exhibits of light bumping to select locales at recto & verso sides; otherwise, generally clean. Fine. [Item #8573]
