Contact/II Vol. 9 No. 50/51/52 (Spring 1989)

New York, NY, USA: Contact II Publications, 1989. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. This vintage number of the literary journal co-edited by J.G. Gosciak, an academician & biographer, & Maurice Kenny (1929-2016, the respected poet of partly Native American ancestry) features a deeply insightful critical tribute-essay on Robert Duncan (1919-1988), the Giant Black Mountain School- San Francisco Renaissance-&-Beyond American poet who had died the previous year, by contributing writer Michael Duff (pgs. 60-64). Also in this issue are contributions of poems by Floyce Alexander, Arthur Brown, Maureen Owen & many others; reviews of contemporary publications by great poets including Wendell Berry, Duncan & Margaret Randall; & much more. From the collection of Albert Glover (b. 1942), the esteemed American poet, editor, publisher & academician who is the foremost living authority on Charles Olson (1910-1970), the iconic American Black Mountain-&-Beyond poet's-poet who is our favorite Maximus Obscurantist. Glover was a student of & was anointed by the Maximus Master himself at SUNY Buffalo during the 1960s, & has ever since carried the Olsonian Torch as his scholar, editor & publisher. Duncan was of course, along with Robert Creeley, Edward Dorn, John Wieners et al., a Black Mountain School Star in the orbit of Olson's Sun. A rare, rich & rewarding number in this venerable series, of particular interest to the Duncan devotee; with most-distinguished, relevant association & provenance. In relatively quite fine-to-very-fine condition with mild rubbing, faint scratching & occasional small, light spot-stainings to front, back covers & stapled spine; slight wear & some tiny bumps, creases at/from edges & corners of same; staples just beginning to rust with miniscule interior bleeding. Interior very fine with only minor rust-bleeding noted above, otherwise appearing substantially mint. Fine-Very Fine. [Item #8615]
