Original Concert Postcard: Chambers Brothers, Sunshine Company, Siegal Schwall (January 11-13, 1968)

San Francisco, CA: Bill Graham, 1968. First Edition. Single Sheet. (King BG-102-OPC-A, p. 441). This postcard designed by Bonnie MacLean (1938-2020) promotes a concert series (featuring the Chambers Brothers, Sunshine Company, and Siegal Schwall) which took place during January 11th to the 13th, 1968 at the Fillmore Auditorium. MacLean had been painting noticeboards at the Fillmore in the psychedelic style while Wes Wilson (1937-2020) worked as the primary poster designer, and she stepped in after Wilson quit at some point in 1967 due to a falling out with Bill Graham (1931-1991). MacLean married Graham in the summer of 1967, but they divorced in 1975 after a lengthy separation and four years spent as the artist-in-residence at The Fillmore during the venue’s golden age. According to Eric King’s Collector’s Guide, “The poster is red on a black background. The central image is a shield shape surrounded by Gothic designs. Outside them are a series of simple geometric forms, squares, rectangles and arcs. This is the last poster in this part of the series done by Bonnie MacLean. About two years later she did several more” (p. 441). Yet another alluring postcard in this series of psych rock collectibles. Postcard on single sheet: First Edition, First-&-only Printing with all points in King's Collector's guide. In strong fine condition with only minute shelf-wear, some light bumping to fine-edges & corners of recto & verso sides; mild-to-moderate rubbing present at verso; otherwise, generally pristine. Fine. [Item #8621]
