Cherry Valley, NY: Cherry Valley Editions, 1978. First Trade Edition. Softcover. Signed by Allen Ginsberg to Richard Cupidi. "Time comes spirit weakens and goes blank apartments | shuffled through and forgotten" (first stanza, "The Names," pg. 11). Poems All Over the Place: Mostly 'Seventies by Beat Generation Founding Father Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) is a collection of poems that reflect Ginsberg's evolution and the cultural shifts of the 1970s. The selection of poems includes a mix of Ginsberg's early works, particularly those associated with "Howl," and later pieces that were often read in public during the '70s. Notable pieces in this volume include "The Names" (pgs. 11-15), "Fragment: The Names" (pg. 16), "Silent Tingling" (pgs. 22-23), "Thoughts on a Breath" (pgs. 33-36), "Reading French Poetry" (pg. 37), "T.S. Eliot Entered My Dreams" (pgs. 46-50), "Ballade of Poisons" (pgs. 55-56) & "After Basho." (pg. 57). The collection also features a handful of private journal pages that reflect part of the subconscious of the Counter-Culture and is dedicated to Larry (Lawrence) Ferlinghetti (1919-2021), The Beat Generation's number one acolyte & owner of City Lights Books. This compilation serves as an archive of Ginsberg's early strong fragments and adds to the understanding of his literary development and the impact of his work on the Beat Generation and the countercultural movement. Charles Plymell (b. 1935) & his wife, Pamela Beach Plymell (b. 1947), are the publishers of this item through their Cherry Valley Editions. The Plymells, noted cultural & literary figures & close associates of Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs (1914-1997) & many others, lived in Cherry Valley, NY very near Ginsberg's farm, East Hill Farm, during this period. This edition is a significant collectible and a testament to Ginsberg's enduring influence on literature and culture. From the collection of Richard Cupidi (b. 1945), our esteemed mate in the UK who managed the fabled Unicorn Bookshop in Brighton, England for founder Bill Butler (1934-1977, the famed American-expatriate bookseller & publisher). From the late 1960s through the early 1970s, Unicorn proffered & published many outstanding productions by WSB, J.G. Ballard et al., some of which have become the scarcest, all-but-unobtainable Beat-&-Beyond collectibles (see for example our Item No.s 8217 & 8366). After prevailing against censorious harassment efforts, Unicorn closed & Butler died in short order. Cupidi went on to found the Public House Bookshop in Brighton, which had a long & successful run but is also now closed, & he still resides there. We have been honored to obtain what Cupidi has termed "The Last Hurrah," all the remaining treasures of Unicorn & Public House, some of which have become the stuff of myth. At title-page, above his printed name, Ginsberg has handwritten his signature in jet black ink: "Allen Ginsberg," and beneath his printed name Ginsberg has handwritten: "for Richard Cupidi." Softcover:: First Trade Edition per copyright page, first printing though not explicated as such thereon. A most collectible early Ginsberg production in its rarest contemporary form, with extremely relevant association & very distinguished provenance, greatly enriched by Ginsberg's signature to Cupidi & inscription.
