Prospectus for "The Valley" Etchings Portfolio (Copied, 1989)
New York, NY: No Publisher, 1989. First Printing. Single Sheet. A xerox copy of a prospectus for the famed 1989 exhibition of works by the great American artist, Keith Haring (1958-1990) & our Patron Saint-Demon here at Third Mind Books, William S. Burroughs (1914-1997). Featured on the prospectus is an artwork from “The Valley,” a portfolio of etchings by Haring intended as illustrations for the final chapter of WSB’s novel from 1987, The Western Lands. Haring had long been a Burroughsian and the collaborations with Burroughs were “a dream come true” for the young artist, who died tragically of AIDS the following year. From the collection of our good friend & colleague Brian E.C. Schottlaender (b. 1952), the most-distinguished American librarian-academician who is the author of "Anything But Routine: A Selectively Annotated Bibliography of William S. Burroughs," now in its fifth edition- an indispensable Burroughsian Resource which we always consult for our WSB curations, as above. Xeroxed single sheet: presumed first & only printing of a curious instantiation of a WSB collectible. In very fine condition with only minute-to-moderate wear to fine-edges & corners of recto & verso sides; otherwise, generally pristine. Very Fine. [Item #8697]
