The English Intelligencer / 425 (1967)

Cambridge, England: The English Intelligencer, 1967. First Printing. Stapled Sheets. Inscribed & signed by Peter Riley. A literary magazine “devoted to poetry and letters” founded by poets Andrew Crozier (1943-2008) and Peter Riley (b. 1940), two poets affiliated with the British Poetry Revival, which was of course related to contemporaneous youth movements in American writing, such as the Mimeograph Revolution (Neil Pattinson, “Certain Prose of the English Intelligencer,” 2014). The English poet, Elaine Feinstein (1930-2019) was right to note that the shared feature of contributors to and readers of The English Intelligencer was an admiration for the life and works of the great American poet, Charles Olson (1910-1970), the seminal author of 1950’s “Projective Verse” among numerous other masterpieces. At any rate, this issue features work by the previously mentioned Peter Riley, and the noted English poet and professor, John Hall (1945-2025). A unique British literary collectible, produced by Olsonians across the pond. From the collection of Albert Glover (1942-2026), the esteemed American poet, editor, publisher & academician who was the foremost remaining authority on Charles Olson (1910-1970). Glover was a student of & anointed by the Maximus Master himself at SUNY Buffalo during the 1960s, & had ever since served outstandingly to bear the Olsonian Torch as bibliographer, editor & publisher. Glover passed away February of 2026, & we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family. Large-format magazine in stapled sheets: the First & only Printing of this issue of The English Intelligencer. This item is additionally inscribed & signed near topmost fine-edge by one of its contributors, Peter Riley.
