Forest Hill, MD: Cemetery Dance Publications, 2005. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. Signed twice & inscribed by Kealan Patrick Burke. "Summer light danced in shimmering pools beneath the swishing canopies of leaves." (opening sentence, pg. 27). The Hides published by Cemetery Dance Publications, is the second book in Irish horror novelist Kealan Patrick Burke's (b. 1976) five-part Timmy Quinn saga, following the Bram Stoker Award winning The Turtle Boy (See Item No. 8756). The Timmy Quinn saga follows Timmy Quinn, a boy with the unique ability to see the dead. As he grows older, Timmy faces numerous challenges & adversaries, including murderous revenants and the man he believes responsible for the veil between the living & the dead. The series is known for its clever writing, originality, and has been praised by readers and critics alike. The Hides picks up almost seven years after the events of The Turtle Boy. Following a nightmarish encounter at home, Timmy's search for peace takes him to his grieving grandmother and a small harbor town on the south coast of Ireland. But no peace can exist in a place whose past is colored by hate, betrayal, and murder, and it is not long before Timmy realizes his haven has become a cage. In the very foundations of an old crumbling factory, the dead are gathering and uniting. To save his life and the lives of those he loves, Timmy Quinn must step behind the "curtain" into the realm of the dead, and face something far more terrifying than he has ever encountered before: a monstrous entity known only as "The Hides." See Item No. 8891 for the third installment in this series, Vessels. At verso half-title page, Burke has inscribed (possibly to his uncle Doug) & signed his name in cornflower blue ink: "To Doug: | You're a gentleman and a scholar, as we say in Dungarven. | Enjoy this imaginary tour of my household! | All the Best, | (signed) Kealan Patrick Burke." Hardcover in Unclipped Dust Jacket: First Edition per copyright page, first printing as indicated by number sequence thereon, as well as "This special signed edition is limited to 750 numbered copies. This is number (handwritten in raven black ink) 145," as stated at colophon. Above his printed name, Burke has handwritten his signature in cobalt blue ink: "Kealan P. Burke." A most magnificent horror collectible in its rarest contemporary form, greatly enriched by the author's two signatures and familial inscription.
