Broadside: Bukowski & My Pin Cushion Heart
San Francisco, CA: Sore Dove Press, 2007. Limited First Edition. Folded Sheet in Wrappers. Signed by Linda King. "He didn't spare words for me/ In all the years after we separated/ It was Jane he loved and missed/ Even when I was with him/ He programmed me to act like Jane/ I was there to test his new found fame/ That needed to be tested over and over/ I was there to get the wheels oiled/ And turning after the last job" (first stanza) A poem by Linda King (b. 1940), an American sculptor, playwright, poet & editor who was the girlfriend of Charles Bukowski (1920-1994)- the cult favorite poet-denizen of the dive bar & the racetrack- during 1970-1975. Elegiac, fond-yet-regretful, here is a poetic reminiscence from a wised-up veteran of Buk's notorious alcohol-fueled infidelity, misogyny- & somehow sympathetic symbiosis. Smaller broadside folded into four panels, with printing on seven sides, affixed to stiff wrappers. A production of Sore Dove Press, the imprint of Soheyl Dahi (b. 1954), the noted artist & publisher, one of 50 copies (from a total edition of 76) hand-numbered in red ink & signed by King in black ink at title panel, this is copy No. 21/50. Published as the twenty-seventh number in the Sore Dove Press Broadside Series per colophon. An exceptionally scarce King-Bukowski collectible, not even cited in Debritto, in its penultimately rarest (& only (barely) available that we're aware of) contemporary form. See also esp. our item No.s 6994, 7376, 7750. In very fine condition, appearing substantially mint inside & out. Very Fine. [Item #8902]
