Original Concert Postcard: Big Brother and the Holding Company, Sly and the Family Stone, Jeff Beck Group, Siegal Schwall at the Fillmore (July 16-21, 1968)

San Francisco, CA: Bill Graham, 1968. First Edition, Second Printing. Single Sheet. This postcard designed by Lee Conklin (b. 1941) promotes a concert series which took place on July 16-21, 1968 at the Fillmore West featuring Big Brother and the Holding Company, Richie Havens, Illinois Speed Press, Sly and the Family Stone, Siegal Schwall and the Jeff Beck Group produced by the legendary impresario, Bill Graham (1931-1991). Lee Conklin is known as the creator of the album cover art for Santana’s debut album in 1969, and his psychedelic art style contributed some of the most iconic poster designs of the era. Per Eric King’s collector’s guide: “This poster is flesh tone, gold, white, several shades of rust, dark brown and purple. The central image is two flesh tone colored eggs with tiny faces and birds for eyes. The edges of the eggs are cracking, but there is a talon in each of them making an impression on them from above as if they were soft like flesh. The eggs are sitting on something which is very elaborately drawn and includes several faces, but what that might be, a tree stump, a nest or something else is unclear” (BG-129, p. 468). Single sheet: First Edition, Second Printing with all points in King's Collector's Guide (BG-129-OPC-B, pg. 468). As described in King's Collector's Guide, on the verso of this postcard is a calendar of events then occurring in the upcoming series of months. A classic Conklin collectible. In relatively very fine condition with minute age-toning; very mild bumping to the fine edges and corners; otherwise, pristine. Very Fine. [Item #8921]
