Original Concert Postcard: Chambers Brothers, Buffalo Springfield, Richie Havens at the Fillmore & Winterland (May 29- June 1, 1968)

San Francisco, CA: Bill Graham, 1968. First Edition, Second Printing. This postcard (appx. 4 & 5/8" x 7”) designed by Lee Conklin (b. 1941) promotes a concert series which took place during Memorial Day weekend (May 29-June 1, 1968) at the Fillmore/Winterland concert venues in San Francisco, CA, featuring Canadian-American rock band Buffalo Springfield, American psychedelic soul band the Chambers Brothers & American singer-songwriter Richie Havens (1941-2013), produced by the legendary impresario Bill Graham (1931-1991). Buffalo Sprinfield consisted of Neil Young (b. 1945), Jim Messina (b. 1947), Dewey Martin (1940-2009), Stephen Stills (b. 1945) & Paul Furay (b. 1944). Young had quit the band as of May 5, 1968, but agreed to finish out their tour. Despite pleas from Graham, the band couldn't make it through & canceled both of their last shows. The Chambers Brothers were a regionally popular band made up of 4 former Baptist choir brothers from Mississippi, most famously known for their 11 minute psychedelic opus "Time Has Come Today," which was released shortly after these shows were to be performed. Richie Havens was touring his second studio album (& first Billboard charting) "Something Else Again." Havens would go on to participate in the opening performance of Woodstock in 1969. On Verso is an announcement of The Fillmore Summer Series, including music industry heavy hitters B.B. King (1925-2015), Booker T & The MGs, Sly and the Family Stone & Canned Heat. Single sheet: first edition, second printing with all points in King's Collector's guide (BG-122-OPC-B, pg. 462). In relatively very fine condition with only minuscule bumps to the fine edges; verso is clean, though mildly age-toned; otherwise, pristinely mint. Very Fine. [Item #8945]
