This vintage earlier number of the legendary literary, cultural & arts journal chiefly edited by Barney Rosset (1922-2012) features: “Here They Go” & "Torch Ballard for John Spicer: d. 8/17/65" (pgs. 80-81) by Paul Blackburn (1926-1971) the influential American poet; an essay "Educators as Dropouts: New York City's Public Schools" (pgs. 19-23, 82) from First Amendment advocate Nat Hentoff (1925-2017); “Going Down Slow,” a profile of Beat Generation poet LeRoi Jones a.k.a. Amiri Baraka (1934-2014); "Jazz: The LP Catalogue #19" (pgs. 30-32) a review by American music critic Harvey Pekar (1939-2010) of the discography of American jazz alto saxophonist Lee Konitz (1927-2020); nine poems "Prison Poems" (pgs. 44-45) by Ho Chi Minh (1890-1969) that he wrote while he was imprisoned by the Chinese police in 1942; "Rites of Love and Death" (pgs. 56-59), a photo-still spread from Japanese author Yukio Mishima's (1925-1970) film version of his book "Patriotism;" an entry of "The Adventures of Phoebe Zeit-Geist" (pgs.33-40), a comic that detailed the adventures of debutante Phoebe Zeit-Geist as she was variously kidnapped & rescued by a series of bizarre characters, such as Nazis, Chinese foot fetishists & lesbian assassins written by Michael O'Donoghue (1940-1994) & illustrated by Frank Springer (1929-2009); "Rhapsody" (pg. 29), a poem by Frank O'Hara (1926-1966), the eminent New York School poet; & a soft-pornographic photo-interview "Evergreen Drops in on a Dropout" (pgs. 33-40) of high school drop-out & all around good time Cleopatra Mezurouwski by the previously mentioned O'Donoghue & Chaz, contemporary advertisements & so much more. We have found & retained the original, still affixed (and betwixt pgs. 52 & 53) book order forms (one of the book selections is "Naked Lunch" by Third Mind Books Patron-Saint William S. Burroughs [1914-1997]!). From the collection of Albert Glover (1942-2026), the great American scholar, bibliographer, author & publisher who until recently was the foremost remaining authority on literary giant Charles Olson (1910-1970), with whom we're honored to have been acquainted.
