A book of poems by Joel Oppenheimer (1930-1988), a major Black Mountain/New York School poet who was also the first director of the St. Marks Poetry Project & an acclaimed prose writer for the Village Voice in NYC. Titled A Dutiful Son, this work was published in 1956 by Jargon Press, the famed imprint of Jonathan Williams (1929-2008), the American poet, essayist, and photographer. A must-have collectible (even in its Second Edition) for fans of Oppenheimer or Williams’ Jargon Press. From the collection of scholar, poet and our dear friend Robin Eichele (b. 1941), noted Mimeograph Revolutionary & co-founder (with the late, great John Sinclair [1941-2024]) of the Detroit Artists’ Workshop. Oblong-format pamphlet in stapled wrappers: “Second Printing,” per printed publisher’s notation on RFEP. In Near Fine condition with only mild-to-moderate shelf-wear, some light bumping, rubbing, & select exhibits of generally mild bump-creasing to fine-edges & corners of front, back covers & spine-edge; mild-to-enunciated age-toning (spotting, foxing, browning), & the occasional use & age-based artifact similar in scope & expression to these present variously throughout; otherwise, clean.
