Storrs, CT: University of Connecticut Library, 1974-1978. First Printings. Softcovers. "A newsletter of Charles Olson scholarship, OLSON exists to make available to students, scholars, and poets, selected materials from the Olson Archives, and seeks to coordinate additional primary materials from widespread sources. The editor welcomes all pertinent documents such as letters, memoirs and anecdotes, photographs, readings of Olson's work by fellow poets, notes and queries, book reviews, and, above all, original scholarship on any aspect of Olson's work and career...Future issues will regularly include updated and revised bibliographies of Olson's publications and writings about his work, a checklist of his reading, listings of research in progress, manuscript holdings in other libraries, and gifts and additions to the Archives." (from preamble-introduction, Vol. 1, pg. 3) A complete run of all ten issues of the scholarly journal dedicated to the legacy of Charles Olson (1910-1970), the Great Black Mountain-&-Beyond Poet's Poet who is our favorite Maximus Obscurantist. Each issue is edited by George F. Butterick (1942-1988), the most-respected (if tragically short-lived) American poet & scholar who was the foremost Olsonian Authority, along with his friend & colleague Albert Glover (1942-2026). Both Butterick & Glover were mentored & anointed by the Maximus Master himself at SUNY Buffalo during the 1960s, co-authored Olson's first bibliography (1967) & together built a definitive mountain of editorial & critical published scholarship before Butterick's untimely passing, after which Glover carried the Olsonian Torch for many years until his recent passing. We were privileged to know Albert Glover, are very saddened to have lost him, & are determined to preserve & pass on his unparalleled collection of his own, Olson's & many other Giants' rare & essential works- including this veritable treasure-trove of theretofore unpublished original poems, essays & other writings by Olson; transcripts of interviews & letters; vintage historical photographs of Olson & Co. at Black Mountain College, his beloved home-inspiration of Gloucester, Massachusetts & various legendary conferences & venues; facsimile manuscripts; lists of Olson's readings; intensive scholarly notes; commentaries by & references to Robert Duncan & many other exalted Olson colleagues-proteges et al.- plumbed from the vast Olson Archives at the University of Connecticut & solicited from premiere sources near & far. Trade-format softcovers, first-&-only printings. The first two issues bear Glover's ownership signature in bold black ink at blank upper right margins of recto first leaves/ contents pages. And so, for our curation No. 9000(!), we proudly present this indispensable Olson resource complete in ten issues for the most-devoted Olsonian Third Mind collector; with the highest, most relevant association & provenance. All issues are in relatively at-least-fine condition, with mild rubbing, mostly faint scratching to covers & spines; mild wear & some tiny bumps, creases at/from edges & corners of same; light rubbing, a hint of age-toning & occasional spotting, spot-staining to edges of text blocks. Interiors generally fine-to-very-fine with light age-toning, occasional spotting to blank inner covers & page leaves (the latter chiefly at blank margins/edges); tiny bumps & very small, faint creases at corners & occasionally edges of some leaves; first four leaves (pgs. 1-8) of issue No. 3 are loosened from binding but intact; scholarly marginalia in bold black ink by Glover at pg. 48 of No. 1, pg. 84 of No. 2; marginalia in bold black ink on pgs. 9-11-12 & in pencil on pg. 60 of No. 3, notes in various inks on three small sheets found & retained between pgs. 110-111 in No. 3, marginalia in blue or black ink on pg.s 72 & 112 in No. 4 (the foregoing do not obscure the texts & are Gloverian Enhancements contributing to the singular collectibility of this set).
