The Blood of the Air
ISBN: 0877040133
San Francisco, CA: Four Seasons Foundation, 1970. First Edition. Softcover. A collection of poems by Philip Lamantia (1927-2005), a marquee Surrealist of the Beat Generation. Published in 1970 by Don Allen’s [1912-2004] Four Seasons Foundation, Blood of the Air — like 1980’s Becoming Visible — is a must-read collection from the great American author if anyone is to understand the totality of his contributions to American literature writ large. A key overlooked collectible in the American Surrealist canon — available, here at an affordable price. From the collection of Albert Glover (1942-2026), the esteemed American poet, editor, publisher & academician who was the foremost remaining authority on Charles Olson [1910-1970]. Glover was a student of & anointed by the Maximus Master himself at SUNY Buffalo during the 1960s, & had ever since served outstandingly to bear the Olsonian Torch as bibliographer, editor & publisher. We are deeply saddened by this passing of our friend & mentor. First Trade Softcover Edition: First Printing, though not explicated as such on copyright page. In Near Fine condition with mild-to-moderate shelf-wear, rubbing, bumping, and some bump-creasing to fine-edges & corners of front, back covers & spine-edge; a few scattered, low-visibility nicks/scuffs variously present at same; age-toning of a similar gradation also found variously throughout; otherwise, generally clean. Very Good-Near Fine. [Item #9004]
