A collection of poems by Campbell McGrath (b. 1962), the American poet best known for his “free-versed, long-lined, documentary poems,” per his entry on the Poetry Foundation website. Counted among his influences are such giants as Walt Whitman (1819-1892); Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926); and Sylvia Plath (1932-1963); to these Your Devoted VP-of-Operations here at Third Mind Books would add the great German poet & playwright, Bertholt Brecht (1898-1956) with how the poet approaches economic tensions and social disparities in his work. An excellent collection from a highly-talented, if overlooked American poet. From the collection of Dan Rzicznek (b. 1979), an Ohio poet and professor at Bowling Green State University. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket: “FIRST EDITION,” as noted on copyright page; First Printing, as indicated by number sequence, thereon. This copy is additionally inscribed & signed by the poet to Rzicznek on title page. McGrath’s signature, in thin, blue pen ink, reads: “To Daniel — / Well met / in / Martin’s / Ferry — / best in / all / your poetic / endeavors — / [signed] Campbell McGrath / OHIO / 2006.” In Fine condition with only minute-to-moderate shelf-wear & some light bumping to fine-edges & corners of front, back covers & spine-edge; otherwise, pristine with interior unmarked. Dust jacket in strong Near Fine condition with minute-to-enunciated shelf-wear, rubbing, some light bumping & occasional bump-creasing to fine-edges & corners of front, back covers & spine-edge; a few horizontal, as well as vertical crease-indentations (of a generally mild variety) present at front, back covers of same at select locales throughout; Rzicznek’s owner signature present at/near topmost fine-edge of interior front pastedown; otherwise, clean with interior unmarked.
