IS. No. 16 (An Issue of Collaborative Works, Summer 1975)
Toronto, Ontario, Canada: The Eternal Network, 1975. First Printing. Stapled Wrappers. The vintage sixteenth issue of the literary & arts journal edited & with many contributions by "Vic D'Or," among the authorial pseudonyms of Victor Coleman (b. 1944), the acclaimed Canadian poet, story writer & editor who is most-recognized as being the major creative force behind the later 20th century boom in Canadian small press publishing. Sub-titled "An Issue of Collaborative works," this issue is explicitly erotic, wackily surreal, politically provocative (after all, it was published right at the center of the Hippie-Hangover pre-AIDS 1970s...) & charged with electrifying illustrations by Eric Metcalf & Barbara Shapiro at covers & throughout. Among the collaborative contributors of side-splittingly hilarious, sarcastically witty poems, stories & even a play are such major figures especially of the New York School & the uncategorizably sui generis as Bill Berkson, Ted Berrigan, Coleman/"D'Or," Clark Coolidge, Frank O'Hara (he's in the index but we couldn't identify his apparently uncredited collaboration/contribution), Ron Padgett, Aram Saroyan, Tom Veitch & more who are certainly familiar to our Third Mind constituency- & who are all presented in different assemblages of collaboration. Chapbook-format journal in stapled wrappers, presumed first-&-only printing. From the collection of Robin Eichele (b. 1941), the esteemed American poet who co-founded the Detroit Artists' Workshop with the legendary John Sinclair (1941-2024) during 1964. A disturbingly delightful (delightfully disturbing?) literary-artwork collectible, albeit with a somewhat dated vibe; with distinguished, relevant provenance. See our other Coleman collectibles & contributions incl. item No.s 6496, 6724, 7407, 7411, 7413, 8442, 9097; & our other IS. issues here: 9312, 9314, 9316.
