Original Concert Poster: The Byrds, Electric Flag, B.B. King (December 7-9, 1967)

San Francisco, CA: Bill Graham, 1967. First Edition. Single Sheet. A poster (appx. 13&3/4" x 21") announcing a concert produced by the legendary impresario Bill Graham (1931-1991), with performances headlined by The Byrds, Electric Flag, and the ineffable B.B. King, in San Francisco during December 7, 1967 at the Fillmore; & December 8-9 at Winterland. Acclaimed American artist Bonnie MacLean (1939-2020) created the artwork & graphics reproduced here, & “B. MacLean (c) 1967 Bill Graham #96” in facsimile hand-lettering & numbering is found following the curvature of the bottom right border, just above the peninsula hanging off the bottom right-most corner of the image. According to the Talmudic scholarship which we have consulted regarding this poster (which is similar in its depth to that of our underground comix from this period), this copy is from the first-&-only printing. King, BG-96-OP-1, pg. 433. King writes: “This poster is several shades of blue, several shades of pink, several shades of green, yellow, white and gold on a black background. The central image is a human face with an American flag waving in front of it. There is also part of a hand, a bird and a figure playing a guitar. This card for this image and No. 95 were printed as a pair.” (pgs. 433 & 434) An incredible, psychedelic, & quintessentially ‘60s exemplar of MacLean's work with her almost prophetic view on how future generations would look back on the counter-culture of the 1960s, in its rarest & singular contemporary form. Single sheet broadside. First & only printing. In very fine condition with only the slightest wear to fine edges, otherwise pristine! Very Fine. [Item #9395]
