Original Concert Poster: Traffic, John Hammond, Lamb (June 30-July 2, 1970)

This poster (appx. 14” x 21;” King, BG-241-OP-1, pgs. 574-575) announces a 3-day concert (June 30-July 2, 1970) presented by the legendary impresario Bill Graham (1931-1991) in San Francisco, CA. Headliners Traffic were an English rock band formed in Birmingham, UK in April 1967 by Steve Winwood (b. 1948; formerly of the Spencer Davis Group), Jim Capaldi (1944-2005), Chris Wood (1944-1983) & Dave Mason. They began as a psychedelic rock group and diversified their sound through the use of instruments such as keyboards (the Mellotron and harpsichord), sitar, and various reed instruments, and by incorporating jazz and improvisational techniques in their music. They were touring their new album, John Barleycorn Must Die, their most successful album to date. In September, Traffic would go on to release The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, which was a Top 10 American album which did not chart in their homeland. Also featured at this concert was John Hammond (1944-2005), an American blues singer & guitarist whose career spanned six decades & Lamb, an English electronic music duo from Manchester, UK, whose music was influenced by trip hop, drum and bass and jazz. With light production by Brotherhood of Light. The central image overlaying a peacock blue field is a collage of a man walking away from the viewer carrying an attache case. He is seemingly pulled by a parachute. Above him from the chest up is one of the biblical figures from the Sistine Chapel. He is holding two large machinery control wheels with two smaller ones off to one side. Single Sheet: First Edition, first printing. A most collectible 1970s-era concert poster in its rarest contemporary form. In very fine condition with very mild age-toning to fine edges of recto; crisp edges recto and verso. Very Fine.
