Original Concert Poster: It's a Beautiful Day, Ike & Tina Turner, Alice Cooper (October 30-November 2, 1969)
San Francisco, CA: Bill Graham, 1969. First Edition. Single Sheet. This poster (appx. 14” x 21;" King, BG-198-OP-1, pg. 537) designed by Bonnie MacLean announces a 4-day concert (Oct. 30-Nov. 2) presented by the legendary impresario Bill Graham (1931-1991) at the Fillmore West in San Francisco, CA. Headliners It's a Beautiful Day were an American band formed in San Francisco, California, in 1967, featuring violinist David LaFlamme with his wife, Linda LaFlamme on keyboards & vocalist Pattie Santos. The other members of It's a Beautiful Day in its early years were Val Fuentes (drums), Mitchell Holman (bass) and Hal Wagenet (guitar). Although they were one of the notable San Francisco bands to emerge from 1967's Summer of Love, the group never achieved the level of success that contemporaries such as the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, and Santana did. The band created a unique blend of rock, jazz, folk, country, classical, and world-beat styles. It's a Beautiful Day was also one of the last acts to appear at the Fillmore West in July 1971. Its performance of White Bird was featured as part of the musical documentary film Fillmore, released the following year. Also featured at this concert was Ike & Tina Turner, an American musical duo composed of husband-and-wife Ike Turner and Tina Turner. From 1960 to 1976, they performed live as the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, supported by the Kings of Rhythm and backing vocalists, the Ikettes. They were regarded as one of the most potent live acts on the R&B circuit and leading exponents of soul music. In August 1969, the duo headlined at International Hotel's Casino Theatre in Las Vegas. It was in Vegas that Ike, who up to that point had lived a drug and alcohol-free life, began using cocaine, starting a decades long addiction that would end his life in 2007. Tina would go on to divorce Ike in 1976, causing the break up of their musical ventures. Tina, dubbed the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll" broke both racial and gender barriers in rock music with her vocal prowess & stage presence and became one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated sales of over 100 million records worldwide. Rounding out the show was Alice Cooper, an American rock band consisting of lead singer Vincent Furnier (who adopted the stage name Alice Cooper), lead guitarist Glen Buxton, rhythm guitarist & keyboardist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neal Smith. They were notorious for their elaborate, theatrical shock rock stage shows. The central image is white & gray on a black background and is comprised of two figures from Kabuki on either side of a woman with a bead necklace. Both of the Kabuki figures are holding samurai swords. Single Sheet: First Edition, first printing. A most collectible late 1960s-era concert poster in its rarest contemporary form.
