Original Concert Poster: The Move, Cold Blood, Albert King (February 20-23, 1969)

San Francisco, CA: Bill Graham, 1969. First Edition. Single Sheet. This poster (appx. 14” x 21;” King, BG-161-OP-1, pg. 503) designed by Greg Irons (1947-1984) announces a 4-day concert (February 20-23) presented by the legendary impresario Bill Graham (1931-1991) at the Fillmore West in San Francisco, CA. Headliners The Move were an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1965. Their original line-up comprised lead guitarist Roy Wood, singer Carl Wayne, rhythm guitarist Trevor Burton, bassist Chris "Ace" Kefford & drummer Bev Bevan. During their time together, the band released four studio albums, two compilation albums, one live extended play and 18 singles. After their first two singles, Night of Fear and I Can Hear the Grass Grow hit number 2 and number 5 on the UK singles chart, the band released their self-titled debut in 1968, which hit number 15 on the UK Official Albums Chart and garnered two more top 10 singles, Flowers in the Rain and Fire Brigade. After 1968, the band would have three more singles in the top 10, including the number 1 hit Blackberry Way. The band released three more studio albums before their breakup in 1972. This concert was one of their few American shows, including opening two shows for the Stooges in Detroit, MI and playing a few dates in Los Angeles, CA. Joining the band at the concert was Cold Blood, a long-standing R&B horn funk band founded by Larry Field in 1968, with original band members Lydia Pense (vocals), Danny Hull (tenor saxophone and songwriter), Larry Jonutz (trumpet), Pat O'Hara (trombone), Raul Matute (Hammond organ, piano, arranger and songwriter), Jerry Jonutz (baritone, alto and tenor saxophone), David Padron (trumpet), Rod Ellicott (bass), and Frank Davis (drums); & Albert King (1923-1992), an American guitarist and singer, who is often regarded as one of the greatest and most influential blues guitarists ever. The surreal design is several shades of pink to red, yellow, black & white. The central image is a circular mouth. Above, below, left & right of this mouth are four faces from nose up sharing the common mouth. Single Sheet: First Edition, first & only printing per King. A most collectible late 1960s-era concert poster in its rarest contemporary form. In relatively very fine condition with very mild wear, age-toning & creasing to fine edges & corners of verso/recto. Very Fine. [Item #9446]
