This poster (appx. 14” x 21;” King, BG-240-OP-1, pg. 574) designed by David Singer (b. 1941) announces 2 four-day concerts (June 25-28 & June 30-July 2) presented by the legendary impresario Bill Graham (1931-1991) at the Fillmore West in San Francisco, CA. Headliners at the first concert, Sha-Na-Na, consisting of Frederick “Denny” Greene (vocals), Scott Powell aka “Captain Outrageous” aka Tony Santini (vocals), Donald “Donny” York (vocals), Grover Kemble (vocals), Richard “Joff” Joffe (vocals), John “Bowzer” Bauman (bass vocals), Larry Packer (guitar), Elliot Cahn aka “Gino” (guitar), Bruce “Zoroaster” Clarke aka “Bruno” (bass), Screamin’ Scott Simon (piano, keyboards), Lennie Baker (saxophone, vocals) & John “Jacko” Marcellino (drums, vocals) was an American rock and roll & doo-wop revival group formed in 1969. The group performed a song-and-dance repertoire in gold lamé jumpsuits based on 1950s hit songs that both revived and parodied the music & the New York City street culture of the 1950s, gaining initial fame for their performance at the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, made possible with help from their friend Jimi Hendrix. Joining the band at the first concert was Pacific Gas & Electric, an American rock band comprised of guitarist Tom Marshall, bassist Brent Block, lead guitarist Glenn Schwartz and drummer & vocalist Charlie Allen; and Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks, a San Francisco band led by singer-songwriter Dan Hicks. Featured at the second event, a "mid-week show," were Traffic, an English rock band formed in Birmingham, UK in April 1967 by Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood & Dave Mason. They began as a psychedelic rock group and diversified their sound through the use of instruments such as keyboards (the Mellotron and harpsichord), sitar, and various reed instruments, and by incorporating jazz and improvisational techniques in their music, as well as American musician & songwriter Leon Russell. The design of the poster is silver, shades between silver and black and black. The central image is a collage made up of four elements. At the bottom in the foreground is a narrow mouth glass bowl containing a fish. A man with two women nearby is climbing toward the bowl over large rocks. The moon appears well below the horizon in front of a large rock formation. In the background atop the rock formation a rider sits upon a horse. Single Sheet: First Edition, first printing.
